August - Wellness Month
August is officially Wellness Month - a time to prioritize self care, form healthy habits and focus on your overall wellbeing.
Pelvic health often gets looked at as an after thought, once problems start forming. However, Wellness Month is a perfect opportunity to spotlight an often overlooked, vital part of a woman’s overall health.
Your pelvic muscles are a group of muscles that provide organ support, control bowel and bladder functioning, control sexual functioning and are the deepest layers of your core. These sound like pretty important parts of a persons life and health.
Let’s shift the narrative, Pelvic health IS wellness. And education is the first step towards improving your pelvic health.
Here are 4 things you can start doing now to improve your pelvic health:
1). Brisk walk daily for 20 minutes
2). Stay hydrated, however space fluids out throughout the day
3). Focus on coordination of the pelvic floor (i.e., you need to know how to squeeze the muscles AND relax the muscles)
4). Focus less on kegels and more on Functional use of your pelvic muscles (i.e., use your muscles when you jump, cough, bend and lift)
